Why Field Trials Matter

Soil, climate, crop variety, irrigation, season, farm practices and local biodiversity can all influence agricultural outcomes.

A solution that appears promising in one setting may need further evaluation before it can be responsibly recommended for another soil type, crop or region.

Field trials help researchers and farmers understand:

Our Field-to-Farmer Model

SIART follows a learning-based approach:

1. Identify the Challenge

The process begins with a real field issue, such as soil-health concerns, crop-nutrition needs, input-efficiency challenges or climate-related stress.

2. Design a Research Question

Researchers, technical experts and farmer partners define what will be observed, compared or evaluated in a clear and practical manner.

3. Select Appropriate Trial Sites

Trial sites are selected by considering crop, soil type, season, local conditions, farm practices and farmer willingness to participate.

4. Conduct Field Demonstrations

The selected practice, biological input or agricultural approach is demonstrated and observed under field conditions.

5. Record Observations

Relevant observations may include soil condition, crop growth, root-zone response, plant health, farm management practices, farmer feedback and other suitable indicators.

6. Review and Learn

Results are reviewed with technical experts and participating farmers. Further research, refinement or repeat trials may be required before broader recommendations are made.

7. Transfer Knowledge

Useful, responsibly validated learning is shared through farmer training, workshops, demonstrations and knowledge resources.
