Dainik Jagran highlights the launch of three websites in Giridih to safeguard centuries-old Adivasi knowledge, conserve medicinal plants and promote forest biodiversity.

GIRIDIH, JHARKHAND: An initiative led by environmentalist and sustainability advocate Rajeev Singh to preserve Hodopathy, a traditional indigenous healing system associated with Jharkhand’s Adivasi communities, has been featured in Dainik Jagran’s Dhanbad edition on October 9, 2026.

The report, published under the headline “गिरिडीह में होड़ोपैथी चिकित्सा पद्धति के संरक्षण की पहल” (Initiative to Preserve the Traditional Hodopathy Healing System in Giridih), highlighted efforts to document generations-old indigenous knowledge, conserve medicinal plants and protect the forest ecosystems closely associated with traditional healing practices.

As part of the initiative, three dedicated digital platforms — Hodopathy.org, Hodopathy.in and Hodopathy.com — were inaugurated at Singh’s residential office in Giridih. The websites aim to preserve and share the traditional knowledge of Adivasi elders, experienced healers and local plant experts, much of which has been passed down orally for generations.

The initiative is also linked to Hodopathy Park in Gandey, Giridih, bringing together indigenous knowledge preservation, medicinal plant conservation and community participation.

Documenting Traditional Knowledge for Future Generations

Speaking about the initiative, Singh emphasised that Adivasi communities possess valuable knowledge of forests, medicinal plants and their traditional uses. However, much of this heritage remains undocumented and is at risk of disappearing as experienced knowledge holders grow older.

To address this concern, the project team is collecting information through interviews with traditional healers, community elders and local plant experts. The documented knowledge is being reviewed and compared with available scientific literature.

The programme will progress in three phases. The first focuses on developing a digital repository of traditional knowledge. The second involves publishing a book documenting the experiences of senior healers and the identification and customary uses of medicinal plants. The third phase will provide training to young people in plant identification, conservation and documentation.

The initiative also proposes collaboration with research institutions to scientifically investigate the safety and effectiveness of selected traditional medicinal practices.

Conservation of Medicinal Plants and Forest Biodiversity

Singh stressed that preserving Hodopathy requires protecting the medicinal plants and forests from which much of this traditional knowledge originates.

The initiative seeks to encourage the cultivation and conservation of indigenous medicinal plant species, strengthen community involvement in environmental protection and contribute to forest and biodiversity conservation.

He appealed to traditional healers, Adivasi elders, forest experts and rural communities to share their experiences. Students, teachers, researchers and social organisations were also invited to participate in the programme.

Singh further emphasised that the consent, rights and contributions of traditional knowledge holders would be respected throughout the documentation process.

Community Participation in Website Launch

The inauguration programme brought together traditional healers, Adivasi community representatives and members of the organising team.

Among those present were CA Rakesh, Rimi Singh, Saman, Shubham, Sonali, Anchal Singh, Anand Murmu, Vinita Tudu and Manoj Hembrom, along with other participants.

The initiative seeks to connect indigenous wisdom with digital technology, scientific research and ecological conservation, creating opportunities for younger generations to learn from traditional knowledge holders.

The coverage in Dainik Jagran has brought wider attention to the importance of preserving Jharkhand’s indigenous heritage and protecting the medicinal plants and forests that sustain it.

By combining traditional knowledge documentation, youth participation and biodiversity conservation, the programme aims to develop a meaningful model for safeguarding indigenous knowledge and natural heritage for future generations.
